I am the artist of this webpage, LSG Otto. I have to giggle a little even saying that and you will too after reading this strange story. The fact is I had never painted anything EVER in my life..no hobby, no classes,no educational background, etc. The fact that I ever took a paintbrush to canvas is a complete fluke!

It was February of 2016 and I was very close to an older woman who was young at heart and free in spirit named Mary. My dear Mary was terminally ill with cancer and suffered greatly in between the doses of her scheduled pain medication so I was simply trying to think of something we could do together that would distract her in that time between doses and she happened to mention to me that as a young girl she enjoyed sketching. I thought that was great because I too had fiddled around with sketching and doodling when I was in high school, so I decided to sign us up at the local arts center where we could go and do just that. However, the community center did not have available a sketching forum but rather painting acrylic on canvas. We had NEVER PAINTED OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT! We were nervous..even a little scared but we figured we would suck for now but have a lot to improve upon. It was the very first day with blank canvas in hand and a plain pencil ready that I started to sketch out a form of a nude woman LADY LOUNGING WITH LILLIES. When I started to fill the sketch in with mixed paint colors...SHE CAME TO LIFE! It was truly bizarre watching my hand move the brush and mix the colors and create shades and depth and not know at all what I was doing! A total and utter fluke!! In the span of under a year, I painted over 100 paintings! They are all inspired by real women of the early 1900s - 1920s nude or semi-nudes. I paint what I am most drawn to, which is beautiful, real, strong women. These women are but ghosts now but they were alive and hustling for nothing wages and living in a mans world where they didn't even have the VOTE yet!! Yet, they posed in risqué photographs that if found out, could have ruined their reputation and run them out of town. This was an era of real curves and no apologies either. If i knew how to paint cellulite I would showcase that in every painting so we could accept natural beauty...warts, rolls , hair and all. Anyway, Mary would be so proud to see that I put a website together to display all the paintings that are in existence only because of her existence in my life. I call them the Ladies of the Canvas. I love all of these fine women and I hope you do as well. Thank you.
